Puppies by nature have to "go" several times a day. Usually upon waking, after breakfast, before nap time, after nap time, after dinner, and before bedtime is the normal cycle. Most dogs want to "go" outside as they develop early the notion of not soiling their indoor nesting spots. You mentioned that you are gone during the day. Separation anxiety can also cause a puppy to "go' inside because he/she is lonely and wants human companionship on a regular basis. This is necessary for the puppie's well-being and development. If you must leave him/her alone all day, you might try leaving him/her in an area with lots of space and a floor surface that's easy to clean, like the kitchen. We tried that and it worked best for us. Just remember one important thing: puppies are puppies and no amount of scolding or punishment will change that. Puppies, and all dogs by the way, crave human companionship and want to please their owner(s). Treat your puppy with love, patience and kindness and your efforts will be rewarded with totally forgiving loyalty and love. Good luck.

One of the easiest and best ways to house train is by using crate training. Go to Wal-mart and buy a good sized crate - a medium to large will run you about $50. Be sure to get one that he'll be able to grow into - ideally, he should be able to sit, stand, lie down, and turn comfortably as an adult.
There are some really important things to remember when crate training.
1) The crate should NEVER be used as punishment. Dogs are pack animals - you want to create a space that is his "comfort zone." Make the crate a happy place, with toys, praise, etc. He should be happy to go into his crate. Train him to walk into it on his own by tossing a treat in the back.
2) When he's not being shut in his crate, keep the door open for him to go into as he pleases.
3) You want the crate to be somewhere that you are usually - not in some back corner. If you spend a lot of time in the living room, put the crate there.
When you leave for any length of time, or overnight, put your puppy in the crate. Again, make sure he has toys, a blanket, and a little bit of water. Praise, praise praise!
The reason this works is because he'll see the crate as his home. Dogs don't like to mess where they sleep. You may have a few accidents, but pretty soon, it'll start to improve.
And this is important - when you let him out of the crate, FIRST THING take him outside! Then of course, praise and treats when he goes outside!
Good luck!!

The best way to train a puppy is to be confident in and out with you self.First for pooping and peeing in the house if you see you puppy/dog using the bathroom in the house slap it on the but say no then take it out to finish it's buisness outside. My dog Angel she has her accidents every once in a while and she's only eight months old.And for chewing that's a problem for my dog what I take her toys stick her in the cage. And tell that she's not supposed to chew on certain thing for buying toys try getting toy's that have soft sound in the middle. If you happen to have an older dog you should probally try asking the vet questions that are hard to answer. Usually the vet's answer to the question is always right. If you want more tips the link is at the bottom of this Good luck take care -Stephie-

Puppies are hard if you are away during the day. I suppose you don't have a kennel outside. There is crate training, but you can't leave the little guy in there all day. Here is a website about crate training http://perfectpaws.com/crt.html but your situation doesn't sound like it is ideal for crate training. The idea of using the kitchen or some larger area that is easy to clean is a good idea. Also, rubbing their nose in it and yelling at them after the fact does not teach them anything except it is wrong to rub their nose in it. You do have to catch them in the act and bring them outside. Make sure you praise them outside!

You could try pee pads on the floor or newspaper and train him / her to go on these. Also if your puppy is soiling because he / she has seperation anxiety try a toy with the name KONG it will keep your pup busy while you are away and might not soil as much. Good Luck!!!
