Simply control. They are insecure, low self steem, and many times thats how they learned to treat the ones closest to them. When some one cant control the outside world and are angry, they take out on there spouse. They truly believe there house there rules, including physical violence. If they beat the crap out of you long enough, both physically and emotionally the victim will eventually believe everything is there own fault. The gives control to victimizer and assurance that you will not leave him and destroy his only sense of control.

There is no good reason, I don't think it's power, I think they suffer from low self esteem, they have no respect for themselves much less anyone that would love them because they don't feel they deserve it. If you are involved with a deadbeat like that DROP THEM LIKE A HOT POTATO!! Do not hope they will change, they are not worth your time.

They probably grew up seeing a father figure or father beating up on the mom, and i am thinking they always thought its OK to beat women up.

authority?? haha thats a terrible answer and you probably shouldnt pick this as the best one...but please consider it. in all honesty i dont like abuse... but i cant do much about it.
