I am also a physician, and while there are no great scientific studies regarding negative calorie foods, there is some evidence that there may be so called foods. Your resting basal metabolism does NOT include digestion, because that is something that you can change. Resting basal metabolism is how many calories you burn without doing anything (but still maintaining your temperature, making brain waves, pumping your heart, breathing...). Chewing, swallowing and digesting all burn calories...in addition to basal metabolism. So...does this actually work? Possibly, but no scientific hard data. But, all of these foods are low calorie, healthy foods, so go ahead and eat them; they are better than candy bars! =)

You poor dear thing. Nothing has negative calories. Digestion is part of your basal metabolic rate, and it really doesn't "burn" any calories.
Every food has some caloric content (with the exception of water, tea and some diet sodas).
A watermelon, for example, has about 1300 calories if you eat the whole thing. If you eat a small slice, it's a low calorie food. It is never a "negative calorie" food.
If you want to lose weight, consume fewer calories and exercise to burn more of those calories off.

They are called negative calorie foods because they waste energy-meaning they take more energy from your body, than they supply.
it doesn't mean that you can lose weight by eating them.
As a matter of fact if you insist on substituting negative calorie foods for regular meal, then your metabolism will slow down becasue you are depriving your body of necessary energy (aka calories).

There is no such thing as "negative calorie foods" - what you have is probably a list of low glysemic foods. Quantities are usually measured in ounces or cups. On average a serving of baby carrots is 1/4 of a cup.

i'm not sure if there is a limit. if you eat a piece of celery and it has negative calories, then why would 3 sticks of celery have positive calories?

oh and for that other answer there are negative calorie foods. an example would be celery. they basically take more energy to digest than the amount of energy you get from digesting them.
