For the past week (all 7 days), I've been having trouble getting enough sleep. I usually wake up and 3 am and it seems like after that I just can't go back to sleep or I'll continuously wake up. I've tried relaxing music and even taking Tylenol PM before bed, but nothing really seems to be working and the lack of sleep is really catching up with me.

I was thinking of getting some sort of sleeping pill - but I thought I'd see if anyone else had any other suggestions first.

Pills are only a short term remedy.
Try some acupressure. Third eye? It's in the middle of your eyes, find the little dip and you can apply gentle pressure while inhaling through your mouth and exhaling through your nose. Take deep cleansing breaths about 7-10 times. If this doesn't work find the center of your sternum, the breast plate. There will be ridges. Find the center. Hold 3 fingers together in the very center and do the deep breathing exercises. Bet you can't count to 10. Good night. Sleep tight.

-Start by getting some exercise. Even a walk or gentle jog in the early evening helps.
-Eliminate all caffeine after 12:00 noon - that includes chocolate and soda's. Eliminate anything containing red food dyes after 12:00 noon.
-Don't eat after 7:00 in the evening....especially anything spicey.
-Don't play video games or do any brain teaser type games close to the time you go to bed. Stimulates the brain and won't let you settle. Even this site is a bad idea just before bed.
-Get your iron checked. Low iron will make you wakeful at night and tired during the day - weird but true.

First Look at your diet. If you are taking in more caffeine than usual to stay awake when you are tired. That can be the cause more sugar or more stress? Most of the time if you do not normally have a sleep problem it is something that you are eating.

Good Luck and I hope you get some rest!

Are you stressed or worried about something or someone? If not, try cutting back on caffeine at night, as well as not having anything heavy after 7pm. Sometimes, a glass of warm milk will do the trick. If not, sounds like it may be time to see a doctor.

Start going to the gym when you wake up. You aren't wearing yourself out during the day or you are taking naps.

Good Luck!

I take melatonin (3mg-over the counter) and I sleep like a baby! Good luck-not sleeping is miserable!
