I am looking to buy a new Acura TL or Acura TL type S. What questions should I ask the salesman when taking a test drive and preparing to buy the car?

Ask him, why should I buy from you and not another Acura dealer? What will you do for me, that the other guys won't?

You can ask him where is the closest Ford dealer. I want to take a look at another model. (That will make him want to close the deal, because he doesn't want you to walk off the lot.)

The bad thing about buying the Acura as well as a lot of other car makes like Mercedes and Jaguar, is that they only have one dealer in the town. With Ford or Chevy they will have several in a decent size town and competition is a little higher. Remember that too when you go to buy parts for this Acura, they don't have any competition and can charge whatever the market will bear. Food for thought.

The salesman's job is simply to find a vehicle that you like well enough to buy. Hopefully, he will be knowledgeable enough to demonstrate all the features and controls. As far as pricing goes... You can make things a lot easier, if you simply ask to see a copy of the invoice and offer a fair profit over that(usually $500 min.) If you have a trade, go to KBB.com(Kelley Blue Book) and put in the necessary info. to get your trade-in value whether it be in fair, good or excellent condition. And lastly, see what rate you can get from your bank and see if the dealer can beat it. Anyway, I hope this is what you're looking for and if you need any more help, I'll check your details later. Have a good one and good luck!

In my opinion the salesmen is there to make you pay as much as he can for the car you want. Possibly sell you on a more expensive car than you need.

Do your research ahead of time. Figure out what you want, and once you have decided on a few cars, go out and test drive them. If you find one that you like, the only real thing that you need to do is to find the best deal. Go to a few dealerships and go to where you get the best deal..
With honda though you will probably pay the sticker price. They cars are popular and they don't really hurt for prospective buyers.. So you probably won't find any deep discounts.

You should make sure that you like the car that you are going to purchase and pay whatever the dealership asks you to because they need to make a living also. Why is everyone trying to starve out the dealership ? Can you go into McDonalds and tell the clerk that you will pay 25 cents over what they paid for the burger ? NO !!!!!!. Be a decent human being and make sure that the salesman gets paid. Thank you.

yThe dealer is there to sell you the car, they are not going to tell you anthing that doesn't make that car sell. The best thing to do when buying a car and wanting to check it out to see if it is mechanically fit is to take a mechanic with you. always check the oil for any white lines. that would be a cracked block. also feel the exhaust and the pipe for moisture or blue smoke. both are not good. check the transmission oil and smell it, see if it smells burnt. also if it is not red. also check how many miles the car has on it. make sure the tires don't have worn marks that could mean it needs a alignment or worse, been wrecked. see if it pulls to the right or left when driving it.
but the best thing is to take a person who knows alot about cars, don't trust the dealer to tell you what s wrong with it, they won't tell you that part. their out to sell it. buyer be ware.. always.

That is a multi-facited question.

Research buying new cars at www.edmunds.com and go from there.

I don't know if they still have a section on dealing with the dealer, but if they do read it and understand it. It will be a big help.
