I "forgot" to mention that I had a criminal charge from 9 years ago, when I went to MEPS, now after I swore in, my background check came back with this charge. My recruiter is trying to get a waiver for me, for not mentioning this charge, which was a misdemeanor charge(theft under $300), what is the worst that could happen to me, in the case where my waiver is denied??

you will not be allowed to ship. if they determine that you purposely failed to disclose, you will not be allowed to enter ANY branch of the military at all.

if there is outstanding punishment(fines, probation, that sort of thing) you miust complete that before you will be allowed to proceed with a waiver request.

They won't "forget" and they will kick you out of DEP and that will mean you aren't enlisting in the Navy. Your record will also be flagged at MEPS so you will be prevented from joining any other military service for a minimum of 6 months. Full discloser is very important in the military and I am sure they told you this over and over again at MEPS. Telling the truth is a big deal, because everytime you don't you will get caught. This might work out for you, but if not at least you learned that telling the full truth is always the best and right thing to do. The Navy doesn't have the motto of Honor Courage and Commitment just for the hell of it.

I used to work in the classifications dept at the boot camp (great lakes) and we dealt with this all the time
recruiters are DOGS- they will tell you whatever they have to to get you to sign that paper.
what will most likely happen if you dont get the waiver (although it was 9 years ago so you will most likely get it) they will determine you are inelligable and put you into an apprentiship in boot camp - it isnt that bad...they tell you you wioll be scrubbing swweping and painting decks because you are an apprentice, but really until you get some rank you would be doing all that anyway
good luck (navy boot camp is cake)
