Hi Marge, I am no medical or toddler expert. The only thing that I am is a father of two kids now 14 and 25. With my years of experience, kids don't always have to nap like clock work. Convenient for our schedule if they do, but we have to respect the fact that they are always developing. Unless there is physical or mental discomfort that is disturbing the child, staying up during normal nap time is perfectly OK. If they are tired, they will fall asleep and nothing in the world can wake them...............because they are still growing as we are too! Try talking to her and ask her what will help her sleep. You will be surprise that they can be very straight forward and simple.
Wishing you and your child God's blessings everyday.
Peter

ya normal. I don't have any children yet considering I'm 19, but I have worked at nurseries and babysit. I took care of mostly 1 and 2 yr olds, some would sleep and others would just lay there for a whole 3 hrs and just listen to everything around them and just look around, and it's not like you have to make them sleep, although it's good because they do get cranky, but around age 2 I noticed some started just laying there instead of sleeping, there were also some distractions from others going on. I do not know if you have the time, but since I had the time I would rub their back or play with their hair for a few minutes until the drifted asleep, it worked really well!!lol ......I also find that when I take them outside they get worn out and knock out

My two year old often does the same thing- she is unusual though, as she likes to go to bed. She lays in there and sings to herself and counts, etc.....
I have made sure there is a longer time span between when she gets up and when she goes in for a nap, too, and that helps. I make sure she's been up for atleast 5 if not 6 hours before I put her to bed (at naptime and at night time.) She sleeps about 10 hours at night.
If yours is sleeping longer than that, that could be why she doesn't nap.

Mine does the same thing. Some kids are just very energetic and don't feel like they need a nap. If she's not getting tired during the day, don't make her take a nap. If she is, but still won't take a nap, try putting her to bed a little earlier.

Unfortunatly it is quite common I have a 3 yr old nephew I take care of most and he used to go to sleep so nice and then when he hit about 2 1/2 it started to get harder and harder to get him to take a nap what I do now is I put him in his room with then Tv on almost Mute and let him play for a little while and then I start to go in there and make him lay down and if he gets up make him say HEY Laydown and he does and usually after I do that a few time I go and check on him and hes out like a light and will sleep for almost 3 hrs cuz he tired himself out

This is very normal. Children only sleep when there tired. Parents tend to like to lay their children down because they want a "break". Dont worry about this. None of my four children took naps after 2 years old. They were more intrested in playing and soon had earlier bedtimes. Dont worry.

For some kids it is. If she's not fussy in the evenings then I wouldn't worry about it. When my kids were 2-3 they didn't nap either. We just had "quiet time" where they would either watch a movie or look at books. That way they were still resting and if they were tired they could go to sleep, but there was no stress about them not sleeping if they didn't.

Totally normal. My 2 year old goes between laying in there and crying/playing for an hour to only sleeping for 20 minutes to going in and going straight to sleep. They are just little people - and like adults, some days we are more tired or need more rest than others. Good luck and enjoy that little critter!

Every kid is different. Some nap, and some don't. She might not need to nap. Or maybe she is being put to bed too early at night so she is not tired in the afternoon.
