I'm married. I embrace male friends in a side type hug around the waist or a hug from the shoulders up if that makes sense. If they're good friends that I know won't think it an advance on my part, I go ahead and give them a nice warm hug with a pat on the back. So, I guess it depends on how I think the man will react. If I think the male friend will think me putting a move on him or the other way around, I edge away from a hug.

Wrap one hand around the shoulders and the other on the back under there are presumably -- give a little squeeze maybe a cheek kiss if your close and your done. Sometimes a hug is so quick you don't realize where your hands are I don't think it matters unless there is already something fishy going on -- you know

IMO, that's too personal.
I hug family and close friends by putting both hands on other person's shoulders and leaning in with my upper body (lower body stays about 2-3 feet away) so my head comes towards their left shoulder.

If I were to hug, I lean in, shoulders may touch, my arms up around his shoulders, but still far enough apart my chest does not touch his.

it all depends on how comfortable both parties are. I like sticking with side to side hugs for most male friends and relatives.

both arms are fine, but you shouldn't touch full body, some people take it the wrong way.

It's a matter of how close the two person can be.
