Nothing more says "I love you" than spending time with a parent. Why not tell him that you are taking him out for his birthday. You both agree on the day and you take him out to lunch or supper, which ever works for you.

Sitting there, talking and sharing is a parents dream come true. He may even have a new found respect towards you and you will walk away with even more than you gave. Parents are only human and simply want to know that their kids love them. Take dad out and show him.

: )

My Dad is 52 and he doesn't like to get presents, and I find that most men his age don't either. Give him a hug and a kiss and do all your chores for the day, and he'll be happy
