I would suggest that you contact your local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can enroll your child in the program to get a mentor.

I have been a mentor in the program to a couple of very shy, introverted children, and they were able to more effectively talk with me and with others. They have a few different type of programs, some are school-based, others involve having your child matched with a mentor.

Do not be critical and be very patient. Praise them for their good points. make a list of all their attributes, emphasize their talents. This will take time and maturity.
