As a Christian.....I am totally against it. It's just another way to exploit a human embryo. We cannot and should not try to play God.

Your thoughts?

I am very against embryo stem-cell research. However, if there is a way to use stem cells without the use of embryos I'd be a bit more willing to accept it. But I'd need to do a lot of praying before I'd ever let it be used on someone I love. And I would need to really be absolutely sure it was God's will.

well cells are the basis of human life and im sorry but i had always thought the purpose of life was to live it. stem cell research is advancing fast it can combat disease and now new research has shown it can genetically grow organs such as a heart. So this is a good thing as it allows to prolong life however there is a theory that eventually science will be so advanced that we could prolong life indefinatly. Theres claims that the first person to live to a thousand has alread been born. And your religious which is fine but we have eveolved from tiny cells to what we are today and research into this will allow for a better quality of life. A new virus has been found which implants its DNA into it host and this multiplies, now stem cell research will allow for DNA to be implanted into the virus which is missing from human DNA and this will thus eradicate illnesses caused by defected DNA so research is good for human life. Also not all stem cell research has to be from human embryos, they can be from the skin or organs

Sorry to burst your bubble but stem cell research has already been done thousands of years ago. And you being christian ..well ....you need to open your mind to the book you call the Bible, and see that stem cell research was going on back then. And as for playing GOD, people don't have to play what they are a part of. Remember this passage in your Bible...and God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and took a rib from him(Adam) and created Eve.....I, along with thousands of other were taught that, but I never looked at it, until I got older, God was actaully CLONING ADAM to make EVE. By taking some of Adams DNA EVE was created. That story within itself is shakey, but for general purposes we'll stick to it.
And exploiting human embryo's has also been going on for thousands of years. So much sh** has been going on for thousands of years it's not even funny. And by the time millions of humans not only find this out, but after finding out ( excepting it) will be another struggle. The question is WHY have the powers that be held back so much information from the masses? Please, if anyone responds to this do yourself a favor and go do the research first, and stop believing in sh** people tell you without doing research yourself. Millions of us either act or react with raw emotions, and without seeking the fact first. We normally do stupid sh**, and then stand there after the fact and go ...oh sh** why did I do that.

I support it, as a Christian.

We as Christians often forget that God is the Omnnipotent ,
Omniscient being. All powerful all knowing.

Did god not create these scientist, the very word itself comes from the word omni scient.

That being said there is nothing according to Christian and many religious sects for that matter that god has created everything.

So why fear gods creations.

Science like any other application takes great research before it is applied.

So in my opinion if my stem cells that come from body, which is god's can save the life of my child also from god where is the harm in that.

Too often religion is cursed by man.

God puts the answers to our problems before us everyday and we often get to self righteous to accept the gifts, and cures that god presents.

The problem is we often confuse religion with the big picture.
Jesus was not a Christian , Nor was Buddha buddhists.

Christ was a healer, walked on water, fed the masses with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, he even rose from the dead.

We look at books like Harry Potter and say they are sac religious.

Look to the stories of the bible and you will see many healers that practiced not traditional medicine.

Do not let the propoganda that government and commerce create to get you to buy into their products have you turning your head from non traditional methods of healing.

My nana had a book called " Back to Eden" when I was a kid.
This book taught me that all I need to heal was available in nature.

So why is it so wrong to use the body to heal the body.

Please do not fall into the narrow minded thinking that some many religious people do by taking the bible out of context or not question the source.

Scripture is too too often taken out of context.

We are all gods children all perfect in his eyes, scientist and criminals alike.

Yet we look at modern day healers and condemn them.

Do not let fear lead to ignorance.

It has a lot of potential.

I ask those who think it is a murder how many embryos they have adopted from cold storage, or do they think it's less of a murder when the embryos are just destroyed because no one cares?

Mature religious thought has grays, and degrees, and liminalities, not sunday school prattle about "always wrong" followed by lack of action.

If you oppose stem cell research oppose the fertility techniques that generate the embyros FIRST.

I support the research as long as people aren't being paid to have an abortion to provide the stem cells. There are currently thusands of fertilized eggs that have been frozen for years that will be destroyed if not used. Rather than just destroy them, they should be used in the research for diseases that are currently incurable and only somewhat treatable. Parkinsons, alzheimers, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and other severly debilitating diseases could respond well to treatment from this research. My belief is that God gives man the intelligence to use for the betterment of mankinds condition. If we don't use the God given intelligence that is available to scientists to bring about cures for these horrible diseases, we are wasting that intelligence. My mother died of complications related to parkinsons, my cousin and neighbor is dying by inches each day of parkinsons, and as a RN for 20 years I saw many others die of these horribly debilitating diseases. I can only pray that some scientist somewhere will come up with a cure using the God given intelligence they have been given.

Sorry, I disagree. There are thousands, if not more, who could benefit from the use of embryos which are only going to be thrown away if unused. I think we should do all we can to help the living, not force others to suffer because we believe that an embryo should be given equal rights.

I should read more about it. But I do know from college there's lots of stem cells in cord blood from new born's.
Why don't that use that? As long as they aren't cloning..
But Like I said, I need to learn more about it. It passed here in Missouri last year with basically no restrictions AND they way the worded it many Christians thought they were voting against it.
Scoundrels.

I have to disagree with you, strongly. The main questions when it comes to stem cell research is: do the ends justify the means? & is abortion wrong?

First of all, your Christian values should not allow you to rule out all stem cell research. A small portion of the research being done is used with adult stem cells, as opposed to embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells do exist, yet they are dormant.

When injected into paralyzed dogs and rats stem cells have been shown to bring mobility into said animals again. As someone with little mobility, I urge you to understand the kind of hope this type of research unveils.

I encourage you to have as many beliefs as you so please. Morals and values are important things to have, of course. However, it angers me to know that the issue of stem cell research is basically an issue of abortion. One's beliefs on abortion can not be swayed. It's not my business.

In my opinion, when voting against or for stem cell research (mentally or politically) you should think of people who are disabled, with Parkinson’s, ECT. Instead of thinking of how wrong abortion is. In truth, abortion will happen regardless. Voting against stem cell research will not make it stop.

I am against embryonic stem-cell research. It is the creating and then killing of a human being to better the life of another. It can never be "okay" to do this.

Even if someone I love was suffering, I could never sanction the destruction of another life to save one I love. It's murder, just as abortion is murder.

On the other hand, adult stem-cell research has a lot of possibilities and does not destroy humans.
