If he claws you, there is no danger of disease, other than infection from a dirty wound, so just soaking it in peroxide and keeping it clean is all that is needed. If he breaks the skin when he bites, and is a carrier of rabies, rabies is a possibility. However, unless the dog is acting very strange, red eyed, staggering when it walks, excessive drool at mouth..it is not likely to carry rabies.
No dog walking on a leash is carrying rabies..a dog with rabies is very sick..
so, if a dog bites and it breaks the skin, it needs to be cleaned thoroughly, just wash well, apply antiseptic or a hydrogen peroxide soak, and keep clean, unless it is large enough to need stitches, then you would need to see a doctor.

When you are bitten or scratched by a dog the first thing that should be asked is, "how recent was your last tetanus booster." If it's been 5 years or more you should get a booster shot. If you have only been scratched tetanus would be the only major concern, but this is true with any "dirty" injury. If the dog bit you and has no current rabies vaccine the dog should be quarantined for 10 days for observation. You should also watch the wound carefully for infection.
If you visit the doctor, the doctor will have to report the bite. I believe that the consequences for the dog and it's owner vary depending on where you live, the dog's history, and the circumstances in which you were bit.

You can get rabies if bitten by a dog that is not vaccinated (if they are rabid of course). If no proof of vaccination can be given, the dog will go into quarantine for a minimum of 10 days.
Being clawed by a dog cannot cause any serious ill affects, unless you fail to keep the scratch clean and it gets infected.

An unvaccinated has the potential of spreading rabies through a bit, but not a scratch. Either one can lead to a major infection whether or not the dog has been vaccinated, so you should see a doctor for antibiotics if bitten.

You could catch a disease such as rabies. Bites can also be easly infected. If you were bitten, you can press charges against the owner and the court can easily have the authority to destroy (put to sleep) the dog. If you were bitten in a country that is not rabies free then go to a veterinarian and ask what shots you need to get, such as rabies.

The dog could have rabies and rabies is not cureable. You can have shots to prevent if but they have to be done shortly after the bite in order to prevent it.
Rabies get into your body through a break in the skin from the slaiva of the dog.
