Im 19 male right now (20 in May).

I want to become a police officer, but I dont really know what type of education I need.

I am currently enrolled in my local community college, but I am not taking any type of classes that go with any certain program, because I have been unsure of what I have wanted to go to school in, so I basically just been taking general education classes.

I should have around 45credits at the end of this semester, and will take 7 more credits in the summer, all general education, no Majors.

I read that you need to have Military expericence, which I have none, and do not plan on attaining either,

Or will I be good with just an A.A.S in CJ, or a B.A. in CJ.

What about the police acad.?

I live in michigan, and am unsure if I can just go into the Acad. when im ready to and completed enough education, or if I need to be sponsered by an agency before I do so.

Looking for advice from current/former police officers/

High School diploma or equivalent usually. However some agencies have degree requirements to get hired or advance past a certain rank.
It sounds like you are on the right track >Stick with it and get at least your AA, even better: BA. Military is not a requirement but it looks good on your resume.
A clean criminal record is a must, too.
Good luck!

I am in the selection process for the Indiana State Police, and I have an Associate's degree in Business Administration. I don't know about Michigan, but in general, it does help to have military experience ( I don't) and a clean record. Also, some agencies require you to have a certain amount of college education. Most agencies test to recruit new officers. Check out websites for police departments you may be intersted in and see if they offer a test or if their hiring process is different. Oh, and be prepared for one hell of an interview!
