I'm not an atheist but imo the bible is a book of myths. The "God" I believe in is nothing like the biblical god.

I understand atheism much more than I understand fundamentalism, and I like many atheists personally because they're smart and well read and usually have a great sense of humor.

No human can comprehend whether or not a god figure actually exists. So, Atheism is just another faith. I saw one answer that said it was the only rational answer to the god question. I'd like to know how. To be absolutely sure from a completely rational standpoint, you must have hard empirical evidence that god does not exist. As far as I know, such evidence does not exist.

To say something does not exist you must have proof of it's non-existence. If you have no proof, then the possibility or existence remains, therefore Atheism is fundamentally flawed.

I choose the way of the agnostic....and Alfred E Newman.

The word ‘atheism’ comes from the negative ‘a’ which means ‘no’ and ‘theos’ which means ‘god.’ Hence, atheism in the most base terms means ‘no god.’ Basically, atheism is the lack of belief in a god and/or the belief that there is no god. By contrast, theism is the belief that there is a God, that he is knowable, and that he is involved in the world. Most atheists do not consider themselves anti-theists, but simply non-theists.

I've encountered many atheists who claim that atheism is not a belief system while others say it is. Since there is no official atheist organization, nailing down which description of atheism to use can be difficult. Nevertheless, following are some definitions offered by atheists. Which ever definition you go by, atheism denies God.

After being a part of over 4 religions already (2 of them Abrahamic), I've found that Atheism is most satusfying to me. To everyone who thinks atheists are dumb, please try and be more open. What helped me arrive to atheism was a lot of research and soul-searching.

Atheism should be both the lack of belief in all gods and the belief in the nonexistance of gods, and I hold it in high esteem, being a former atheist.

Unfortunately, a lot of atheism is just exchristianity and is founded on disbelief in the Abrahamic deity, which is really really easy. That form of atheism I don't have a lot of respect for.

Athiests claim there is no such thing as god. But I have learned that most of them have come to that conclusion because they are angry with God for some reason....such as not getting a prayer answered, or because a loved one died. They somehow think that if they SAY that god does not exist, it will make it so. Then they no longer have to answer to Him or follow His rules. Its like saying on a cloudly day that there is no sun. Just because you don't see it or feel it or understand it does not mean it is not real. They also claim that there are no absolutes, yet that very claim is an absolute in itself. If they recognize good and evil as different, they there must be a source of morality from which those differences came. They are very flawed in their thinking. Though they do not believe in God, God believes in them, and they will one day see Him face to face. Won't they be suprised?!!!

It's the only rational response to the complete absence of any evidence that religious propositions concerning divine beings are anything more than fiction. It's also far less wasteful in every imaginable way.

An atheist was being chased through the woods by a bear. And when he became cornered by the bear, he cried,"please God, don't let the bear eat me!"
A voice came from the sky, "You never believed in me until now?"
The man said, "Ok, ok. Make the bear a Christian, please."
The voice said, "very well."
Then the bear bowed down on his knees and said, "Lord, thank you for this meal I'm about to receive."

It is a wonderful alternative to the less than appealing religions of the world. It is also the default.
