Go on craigslist.org and look under the state and city you're in, volunteer tab and go from there.

You can look in your local newspaper, or even try an online check of volunteer positions in your area. You could also call your local Chamber of Commerce, and see if they know of any place that will let you volunteer. Sometimes, the library knows of places - sometimes the library even needs volunteers--one of my children did community service in a library.
