Good for you for recognizing this flaw. You say you're a spiritualist, so I'm going to recommend to you what I am doing myself: the Life Bliss Program. Attaining bliss does not interfere in your religion in any way and will only help you reach closer to whoever it is that you manifest god as - Buddha, Vishnu, Jesus.

i definitely agree with "Nomadic". It has a lot to do with us being too ignorant to fully understand anything of mass proportion. Even the greatest of scholars can not wrap their minds around such a feat, so how can the common man? A common man that lacks the intelligence to use much more than the dull tools of force as a logical device. Consider that as a mass humanity there is much more stupidity and ignorance compared to intelligence and profound thought.
Even knowing the masses are drones, we still must realize that even some of those who rise above due to superior intelligence are only human.
I also think much of Christianity in particular has been bent to the will of "interpreters" and "visionaries" who claim some cultures and people to be abominations, usually because they are different. Truly their is no superiority in a faith, as much as some like to think so. Every man is created equal, even if humanity denies that right to them. Also the sad truth is the majority of people are too ignorant to rise up and reveal the false "truths" some people claim.
We try to bend the word of those who have sway with the masses, in order to influence and control them. Some see the bible as a tool...it is a sad world we live in today.
By the way...i apologize for some of the ignorant answer you are bound to receive...some are much to blinded by their own ignorance to talk creativity about most subjects...especially religion. However it is not entirely their fault...they are products of mainstream society.
Peace good friend, and an excellent question. The wise question to learn deeper, whilst the small minded accept the package without opening it.

Well, first of all God loves everyone. Whether or not they are gay, or sinners...etc. Because every one is His child, he will always love them no matter how they are, or what they do. As a Christian, we do not say that only "certain people" can be saved. We know that everyone can be saved, but it's their choice, not ours. And anyone that tries to twist what God is really about doesn't really have a relationship with him. They can go to church all they want, and claim that they are religious. But it's more than a religion, it's a relationship. I think that it is very wrong what other "Christians" do. They preach the bible, but their actions speak otherwise. If we had more people in this world that really had a relationship with God, and really loved him, maybe there wouldn't be misconceptions, like many of your questions.

Love isn't all there is to it though. This God is very egotistical and jealous. Even if you say that the Old Testament laws are outdated, would you deny the historical accounts in it? Slaughtering of first born and the like. And I know it's an old argument that no one really listens to, but why would an all-loving God allow people to go to hell? If you say that it's because turned away from him, wouldn't a loving God come to their aid when they realize their mistake? Or even stop them before they get there? If a woman had the power to prevent her son from jumping off a roof, what would we think of her if she just let him go?

Interesting that you should say to teach love love and not hate. Yes Jesus preached love but did He sacrifice Truth when he taught love? Absolutely not. Look at the Samaritan woman that met Him at the well. He confronted her about her having had so many husbands and then living with a guy that wasn't her husband.
If that's not enough then look at how He dealt with a lot of the Pharisees and others of His day. Those dealings weren't very pretty. He got on them hard because of how they falsely taught.
Love does not sacrifice the Truth. What you are speaking of in your question is the new idea of tolerance.
Tolerance says "I will support and condone your ideas."
Love says "I am going to do something harder, confront your mistakes and show you the right way to go, and support and encourge you along the way."

Yes, I am sick of anyone who is hateful and prejudiced, yet this type of attitude is not exclusive to Christians who don't practice their faith the way they should. I am a Christian and many of us are appalled at those who call themselves Christians who behave in hateful, prejudiced ways. Still, I have noticed A LOT of those who lump all Christians into a category and make generalized statements designed to poke fun at, judge, hate and show prejudice against us simply because of our beliefs. Many times, people will make hateful comments that are obviously based upon ignorance, because if they truly had their information correct, they would know that what they were saying wasn't true. Because a couple of bad apples can ruin the whole barrel, unfortunately a few badly-behaved Christians have often caused Christians as a whole to be perceived in a very negative, judgmental light, when in reality, that is not how we are at all. The same holds true for those who are NOT Christians. It's ironic that many of those who claim we are hateful and judgmental are themselves that way towards us. My point is that we should ALL be kind toward one another, no matter HOW one believes or does not believe. There is never any room for hate, bigotry and prejudice in life. It simply robs us of joy and the ability to get along with one another.

I know I sure am. I too am Catholic and find it puzzling that my religion is now teaching that we ought to hate gays. What kind of a loving God would want such a thing? And what really makes me mad is that it's NOT just the radical right, but most mainstream Christianity!

I think you should rather stop listening to doctrine of men and look at the real point. God does love everyone or He wouldn't have redeemed all of creation. Some people in the church are very misguided and attack certain problems such as homosexuality with ferver, but overlook or pacify others. You have a point with the misguided attention the church has but remember we are only human. It isn't only God who is suppose to be loving it is suppose to be the model for the church. As Christians there are things people shouldn't participate in, but you should still reach out in love to those who do. I have lots of friends who do things I personally wouldn't but its all choices in their lives and I can only be who I am because its only who I am responsible for.

It's not the people who are an abomination to God, it's the sins that are. God loves the sinners so much that He made a way for them to be saved and free from their sins. He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price of our sins, even though we didn't ask to be saved or free. If that isn't merciful, loving and kind, then what is?
