I have been told that I have a rather large polyp that must be removed by one doctor but I was initially told that 1.8cm is very small and nothing to worry about. I also have a fatty liver. How dangerous is this surgury and is it possible that this could be cancer? I am being given conflicting statements and I just do not know who to believe.

Listen to those medically qualified to comment. I would believe the Doctor, and the phrase " better out than in " seems appropriate.
Modern surgery using laparoscopic techniques ( keyhole surgery) is fast, efficient ,has few side effects and leaves minimal scarring. Try not to worry.

Well my mom had her gallbladder out and she was home the next day. Polyps turn into cancer. So if it is still a polyp it is not cancer yet that is why they want to take it out (so it doesn't turn into cancer) That is the way I understand it. I think that Gallbladder surgery is pretty safe now. They usually do it lyperscopic. With any surgery you have to see what the risk is to you. Health factors play an important role in recovery.
I am not a doctor I just know this from when my mom had the surgery.

Good Luck I hope you feel better.

The operation for the removal can either be keyhole of ordinary that is with an incision. I had an incision and it was fine took me a few weeks to feel better. I still follow a low fat diet as I have problems with other ducts.
Ask the doctor to explain fully what the prognosis is and if you are still not happy ask for a second opinion.
Best wishes.

I've had my gall bladder removed, 3 small incisions were made , was really pain-full after ward's. But after few day's was back to normal.Don't think it's a very dangerous surgery. I'd have it removed, better safe than sorry.
