I recently took the board off the back of the basement stairs and now the dog can see through the stairs and is too scared to climb up we have to exit the basement door and come around

take a cookie or a piece or steak and put it in his face and make him follow it up the stairs.

I agree about the treats on the steps, and not only does it work, we used that method to teach our heeler to climb a ladder!!

It works as long as you are patient, loving and willing to provide the treats during the training.

One step at a time. Use doggy treats to get him/her to go one more step. It is scary for them, but if your there and help it see that there is no danger, it will follow. Praise it for every step with a reward and a big smile, they watch your expressions and know if your pleased or not with them. Good luck.

Try treating each step....put a lil treat on each step and give him a BIg reward at the end.

it is probobly no longer the case with your canines yet, my buddy has a canines and that's a border collie blend and it cant experience its decrease back legs whilst it is going up stairs so it basically drags them. call your vet and tell him the simtums if he says its extreme go in for a examine up. desire your canines is advantageous...CALI

carry him on the steps of the stairs and let him sit there, tell him nicely its alright. the try to tug gently on his leash and see he goes up there. takes patience.
