I think something is wrong with my computer. It's a minor error, but it's still an annoyance.

Sometimes when a website is using javascript to open a new window, when I click a link nothing happens. When I hover over a link, my browser says "javascript;" or something like that, that's what's leading me to think it's a javascript issue

I don't have a pop up blocker or anything like that, and it happens on both firefox and internet explorer.

How do I fix this? I've tried up grading java, but it didn't work. I'm kinda clueless.

oh, by the way, my computer has been like this since I got it almost 2 years ago.

I've cleared my cache and I do have javascript enabled.

ok, I have javascript disabled on my browser - I see it checked. It doesn't happen all the time, just on certain pages. I can't post the page because it's a password protected page.

I bought a registry cleaner (the highest rated one), and I've still got the problem. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, I meant I have javascript ENABLED whoops! Perhaps it's not a javascript error at all. All I know is that there are a couple pages (one in particular) where I try to click a link that I know is suppose to open in a pop up, and it doesn't open. The status bar (where you can see the address when you hover over a link) says "javascript:;"
Not really sure of what else to try...

If it was me the first thing I would do would be to go to add remove programs and remove it. then I would restart my computer. Then I would go to Java.com and reinstall the most current Java. They should have a diagnostic tool there that will tell you which ones you need.
I have had to uninstall and reinstall programs like this one before because they installed incorrectly...If you are installing a program (downloading) you can't have any other applications open when you do it or it will be downloaded with errors. Good luck.

javascript: is a placeholder for some script. Most good sites, don't show that. Which page is misbehaving? We can check it out and give you a better informed answer!

You don't have javascript enabled, because whoever set it up for you turned it off. it's the default.

try the same page in a new browser. http://getfirefox.com

And it has nothing to do with java. Javascript is a totally different beast.

UPDATE:

Oh, it's never worked! that's a big difference!
Javascript can be blocked by a firewall or a router, if it's configured wrong!

Can your browser load this page ?
http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/common/utils/2/yahoo_2.0.5.js

it's code, it's javascript. It starts with a copyright.

Did you try firefox?
