I mean, how can we get them to support our troops and be patriotic?

You will not be able to. The only way to get them to support anything is to allow gay people in the military to be open about it. And allow gay marriage. Also you will have to be politically correct and accept name calling (just like our friend above me...Robert N...who called people "knuckledraggers").

If you go against anything that Liberals believe you will be hounded by them and called so many nasty names. But as long as you agree with them...there will be peace with them.

I support our troops, our wonderful President and the war!!

***EDIT*** Thanks for proving my point realst1. If you don't agree with Liberals....here comes the name calling.

Once again...

Me=4 years Active Army, 5 years Army National Guard, 7 years Army Reserve. Have spent time in the enlisted and officer ranks.

Me=Moderate-liberal democrat

There are many, many members of the Armed Forces who the knuckledraggers using Yahoo Answers would consider to be 'liberal'. Every day we're in Iraq, that number increases. I'm around Soldiers and officers everyday, I hear their conversations... To lump all liberals into a group that don't respect the troops just doesn't make sense.

You can be patriotic, you can love the Army and America (as I do), and still disagree fundamentally with the direction things are going (as I do). As an American, you can demand that Congress do its Constitutional duty and provide oversight to our war efforts via the "power of the purse" the way our forefathers demanded that they do in the drafting of the Constitution, and should not be considered unpatriotic (the way that those on the right often say that we are).

You should be able to question the management of the war efforts to this point, and wonder if perhaps the civilian leadership (i.e. SECDEF and various service secretaries) perhaps have dropped the ball on one or more issues without being considered a troop hater.

I could go on and on...but I won't, as my break is up.

As you are finding out, your stereotypical question pretty much has no merit.

Not all liberals hate our troops.
Not all conservatives are warmongers.
While the military is mostly conservative, liberals do serve.
Not all liberals believe we shouldn't have gone into Iraq.
Not all conservatives believe we should have.
Not all liberals believe we should get out of Iraq immediately.
Not all conservatives believe we should stay there forever.
Not all liberals believe in abortion.
Not all conservatives are anti-abortionists.
Not all liberals are welfare recipients.
Not all conservatives are rich.
Not all liberals believe Bush is the worst President ever.
Not all conservatives believe Bush is the best President ever.

Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of the broad sweeping stereotypical generalizations that compose too many of the questions and answers here. We could have meaningful dialogue here and exchange viewpoints back and forth, but some people only want to attack.

If you think something I say is wrong, give me a well-written and well-supported reason why I'm wrong. I'll respect your opinion even though I may not agree, as long as you have done your homework. And you may just change my mind. Don't just say I'm a scumbag and leave it at that.

Let's see...where to start...how about here...

I'm a liberal AND I served in the Army for 8 years. I think that makes me fairly patriotic. If I was still in the Army, I would still proudly serve my country and follow the orders given to me -- despite my views on the war in Iraq. Once again, I think that makes me fairly patriotic.

Such broad generalizations make you sound like an ignorant moron.

Are you currently in the military or have you ever served? If not, then maybe you should put "your money where your mouth is" -- so to speak. After all, if you're going to accuse people of being unpatriotic, just because they're liberal, maybe you should join the military to show just how patriotic you really are.

Not supporting the war DOESN'T mean that you don't support the troops.

Liberal doesn't mean unpatriotic just like not supporting the war in Iraq doesn't make you unpatriotic. NOT supporting the troops IS unpatriotic, however.

Liberals respect our troops, they don't respect the person masquerading as the Commander in Chief.

This liberal has family members in the military. They signed up to serve and protect our country, not to aggress against an unarmed country who had done nothing to our country so that Bush and his oil cronies could steal their oil and control their OPEC seat, Haliburton could get a bunch of no bid contracts and Carlyle could get military contracts and all could become obscenely wealthy.

Liberals are patriotic, conservative chickenhawks are treasonous and greedy scumbags who will do anything for money.

just one more ChickenHawk squalking.
I'm retired Army, not only am I against the Invasion of Iraq but I consider the Bush Thugs to be the greatest threat to Democracy this nation has ever faced.
I support the troops, I give at the Chapel on Base, every week to help the families of deployed Soldiers.

How bout you punky?
Other than buying a magnet made in China at WALMART
what are you doing?

I understand your frustrations. Although, I feel that the majority is against the war itself, but sometimes it still comes across as though those individuals aren't being supportive of our guys. My hubby is in the AirForce but has never served in the war. He did deploy to Kuwait, though.

I would have to say that it's time for a resolution in this war and it's time to end. I still support our guys 100% and pray for them and their families as much as possible. I'm sure that the liberals still pray for our troops and keep them in their thoughts, which is something that wouldn't be concrete to us. To be honest, there have only been a few outspoken morons who were against the troops, but other than them it's mainly being against the war.

Interesting question.
I guess my "answer" would be an interview I saw on our local news last night.
A man who was protesting the war.
His son was killed in Iraq by an IED.
He said his son did not die protecting his country and did not die spreading democracy.
Now, I don't know what his political leanings are, but since ANYONE who protests the war, is by definition (according to a lot of morons on Yahoo Answers) a terrorist-loving, Bush-hating, American-despising, un-patriotic traitor, I am guessing he MUST be a liberal.

That's a broad generalization... I'm liberal, with no family or friends in the war. I support our troops not the war that's killing them
