I've had them before, in fact, Snowball was my first bird, and she was awesome. I was wondering how much work they are becuase when I had Snowball, we kept her and three cockatiels in a really big cage and I never took care of her(I was about 6-8 years old, mom took care of the birds) so much as take her in the shower with me, bring her around the house, and watch TV with her.

So if I am gone for about four hours a day, will a parakeet get lonely? I really want a pretty little white parakeet again. I have a cat that loves to talk to my green cheek conure(they're great pals, they get along great, and its kinda weird lol) I was wondering if the interaction from the cat talking to the keet, would that make up for the 4 or so hours I would be gone?

They're a lot of work for the simple fact that you have to spend time with them every single day or they'll become "untame". But, most people want to spend time with their pets every day so, that shouldn't really be a problem. Your parakeet will be fine while youre gone, if you just put a few mirrors in his cage with him (and a few other toys). Parakeets think that the "Bird in the mirror" is another bird. They'll sit next to the mirror and chirp at it, peck at it, etc etc. And the best thing about that is, the bird in the mirror is always there when your bird wants to see him....and he's easy to care for=P :)

Also they sell cds that have bird noises on them. My parakeet used to squawk all the time and it was so annoying. We played canary sounds for him and he'd be quiet and listen....and after a couple weeks he was imitating the sounds he heard and he sounded so cute. Just provide your birdie with a big cage, a swing, some fun toys (make sure you dont over crowd his cage) .. a couple mirrors, and maybe a cd of bird noises, and he'll be fine while you're gone.

The best mirrors (in my opinion) are in the auto department of most stores (walmart, kmart, etc) they have mirrors that you clip to your visor in the car. Theyre decent sized and cheap. I got a pretty big one and clipped it inside my birds cage and he loves it. Of course that isn't his only mirror, He's got a few throughout the cage so that he can go different places and still be with his "mirror" buddy.

Also- make sure he has different sized perches in his cage. If he has just one size, his feet wont get much exercize and could get arthritis. usually a couple thin ones and a couple thick ones are good

In my journey, parakeets do more beneficial useful in even numbers with an equivalent male to lady ratio so one can form pairs. in case you know your parakeets gender, attempt in undemanding words getting between the option gender. target for similar length and age if in any respect plausible. And sure, in case you probably did not improve the cage, the unique parakeet may experience that his area is being intruded upon. Get a clean, higher cage, and introduce the recent and unique parakeet to it at the same time. there may nicely be some bickering in the starting up, yet until eventually there is easily damage being finished, enable them set up themselves earlier you do some thing. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if everyone is being particularly aggressive and harming the different, separate them in the present day.

Birds need companionship. Get two Parakeets. Buy a large cage and lots of toys for the birds. I think you will be able to manage taking proper care of two Parakeets (not too much work). Try to leave your birds out to fly around as often as you can. The birds will be much happier. I think it is wrong for people to get birds and leave them caged all the time. Your cat may or may not be trustworthy with the Parakeets. Parakeets can be very social birds. My parakeets eat out of my hand, food dishes, and like to sit on me. You can teach your Parakeets to trust you with Spray Millet. The natural colored Parakeets (green) are usually more healthy. Get yourself a Parakeet health care book for other helpful information. Best Wishes!

Well if your planning to hold this parakeet and pet it and all that jazz getting another keet for a playmate is not a good idea. But if your not going to hold it you can get another keet. If you don't want that....get it a mirror. This will make it think it has a friend. But if you get another friend it won't want u to pet it and hold it because it will be more interested in the friend that it is in you! So like i said i suggest the mirror. I hope this helps
