That sounds easy, but it often isn't. Itching and flaking in the ear canal is basically eczema. However the canal is dark warm and moist and together with skin flakes, makes a banquet for bugs. The canal then becomes infected a condition called otitis externa.

You can cut down on the itching and flaking by applying a little 1% Hydrocortisone ointment on your little finger 2-3 times daily. However, in theory at least, this may increase infection risk. In my experience this risk is small.

I have this problem and have spoken to my dr, but the advise is not great. Some people apparently just have itchy ears! I get it a lot cos of hayfever too - it's so anoying!!! My doc said to keep them warm and dry (before I thought washing them out would do them good!) or put in olive oil. She said anything else could do more harm than good. Never put anything in your ear - not even your finger! (though sometimes I know that's not possible! A spoon handle as suggested above is a v bad idea, as are cotton buds as they can damage your ear.

Sorry that's not more helpfull - let me know if you find any kinda herbal treatment or anything like that? It drives me nuts too!!! xx

Hi there,
Do you suffer from skin problems?? If so you should go to your doctor who will give you something like Otomize ear spray, it'll clear it up quite quickly with an almost instant relief of the itch..

Hope this helps..

P.S. DONT PUT ANY OBJECTS INTO YOUR EAR CANAL, THE AREA IS VERY SENSITIVE AND SERIOUS UNREPAIRABLE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR VERY EASILY!!

Try using an oatmeal based cream skin reliever like Aveeno or something similar. It could be due to dry skin. Is the air in your area dry? If it is try the cream.

step one: stick finger in ear
step two: wiggle finger up and down vigoriously
set three: feel less itching
if all else fails try cleaning and drying your ears throughly after each bathing/swimming

Visit your surgery, get an appointment with a doctor get his opinion, remedies that suit one person might not suit you.

If you have any sense whatsoever, you'd go and see a doctor. People never do that anymore, I think it is beyond them.

Or if you had any sense, you'd itch. But then again, attention seeking is quite common.

try rinsing with a peroxide/water mixture, and then drying them out with a cotton ball. If problem persists, see a Doctor.
