Only about 72% of the entire prison population of America.....

And, to all of those Christians who like to beleive that those people were not Christian before arriving to prison, I remind you that the recidivism rate of parolees is around 80% as well. So, they ARE Christians when they leave prison and get caught a second time....

There are people of every faith in prison! Being a Christian does not mean that you do not make mistakes. It does not mean that you were always a great person, either. Many people FIND Christianity while in prison. Remember the old saying, "There are no aethiests in fox holes"................the same can go for many of the prison population, I am sure.
(Don't forget that most of the Bible was written by men in prison).

I worked as a corrections nurse for four years. There was a lot of religion in that facility. Also a lot of hypocrisy. Few inmates went to trial without a bible in their hands, and the Sunday services were well-attended.
There were also a substantial number of Muslim inmates, most with Arabic names (although 99.999% of them were born in the good ol' USA). What always struck me as funny (in a "dial 9-1-1" kind of way), was these so-called "children of Allah" would sell drugs, use drugs, sell drugs to children and pregnant women, drive by and spray bullets at someone who pissed them off, regardless of the innocent folks nearby, and generally rob, steal, and con anyone in sight; However, they wouldn't eat pork because that "offends God." Go figure.

Christians are just forgiven by their Lord Jesus Christ. It doesn't mean they don't sin,and even big sins. Look at the heros of the Bible like David and Bathsheba. But it is what you do with your sin. God says He will forgive you but there will be earthly consequences.

Many. But they became Christian while in prison, or became prison just before they entered.

Case in point: Chuck Colson in his book "Born Again"

In other countries, Christians are in prison BECAUSE of their faith.

Many people see the error of their ways and turn to God for their salvation. There are others who merely claim to be Christian in hopes of schmoozing the parole boards.

No, but there may be some who profess Christianity. True believer try to stay out of trouble, but can be persecuted though but persecution does not mean guilt.
