Hi there,
it is classed as a fruit because it has seeds :D
If you ask me, they should have invented another group for things such as tomatoes and cucumbers and called it the 'salads' XD Hehe

Botanically speaking the tomato is a fruit, as it is a swollen ovary, containing seeds. It is classed as a vegetable in culinary terms as it isn't as sweet as most fruits and is usually used in starters and main courses.

Tomato is a red vegetable: a round vegetable with bright-red, occasionally yellow, skin and pulpy seedy flesh. It grows like fruit on climbing plants and is widely eaten cooked or raw.
