There's essentially two basic kinds of margaritas, frozen and "on the rocks." the only difference is that frozen margaritas are blended with the ice, and margaritas on the rocks are not blended, but the mix and tequila are just poured in a glass with ice cubes. Personally, i prefer the frozen better. You can also add a little flavor to your margaritas now...strawberry, raspberry, i've even seen blueberry and Mango.

Margarita on the rocks is the Original, normal, margarita. Frozen came later.
Tequila, fresh lime juice, Triple sec poured over ice in a salt rimmed glass.

A "normal" margarita has the ice blended into it so it's slushy. "On the rocks" means the tequila and margarita mix are just poured over ice cubes. It tastes like there is more alcohol because you're not getting the watered down effect of the slushy ice along with the drink.

"on the rocks" is a tern used to mean "with ice cubes". A margarita on the rocks, or a vodka on the rocks, means that your drink is mixed and then poured over ice. When someone asks if you want a "frozen" margarita, that means that it is blended with the ice to be more like a shushie. Hope this helps!

That just happens to be my drink of choice when I have Mexican food. A FROZEN margarita is like a sno-cone...lotsa shaved ice, not much booze, comes in a big fancy glass. A margarita ON THE ROCKS is a strong mixed drink, serviced OVER some ice. I ALWAYS go light on the ice...who wants to pay for a big glass of ice cubes? My favorite tequila is Patron & I always get my margs with salt (on the rim). Yum.

On the rocks means with ice cubes. This IS the normal margarita, however you may also get them frozen. Its probably the same amount of alcohol

On the rocks means over ice, the drink is shaken not blended like many margaritas are made. I find the blended ones to cold to enjoy.

Same as a regular margarita just not blended in the blender. The ice cubes remain intact in the glass.
