Oh man, I feel for you. We haven't gotten there yet, my oldest will be 4 in July, but they do grow up so fast.
I think as they get older though they must get used to it again--I always give my mom a kiss at the airport after she's come to visit us.

5 seems a little young, but I guess each child is different. My son started this last year when he was 8. I actually thought it would be later, like around 11 or 12. He still lets me kiss him at home, but only a little.

My sons are 9 and 14 and still love to be hugged and kissed in public.
Your daughter is doing this for one reason only - you sent her to preschool There is nothing worse than school for this.
See what school has done to her - she's getting a message that love from your family is babyish. That is really disgusting and despicable if you think about it, and it's not necessary. It wasn't inevitable. It comes from sticking kids in school before their egos are strong enough to have their own values and opinions. I'm so sorry for you and for her.
She hasn't 'grown up so quickly.' she's just starting to be ruined by school. Thinking it's babyish to kiss your mom is the height of immaturity, not 'growing up.'

5 is about right mom. They see and hear so much now a days, they do grow rapidly. With my girls, I'm allowed to say..lol.. I love you, blow them a kiss, and have a good day, but I'm not allowed to walk them into the school. " I'm not a baby any more mom", is what I hear. Now my son let me kiss him til he was 7. Then he told me "he was a man now"..lol..lol. And I couldn't do that except at home. Mom to 3.
