Gout is caused by to much nucleic acid, in your DNA But dont worry, apparantly if you elevate the gouty place and keep it cool it should all be fine. If you seek medical advice, they'll probs take a blood test to make sure its gout and then give you some drugs to cure it.

Darlin - he has to get his uric acid levels down.
It is painful and a result of arthritis. It is also a chronic condition that will flair on and off for the rest of his life. Talk to his Rheumatologist with him about how you can help.

He needs steroids to reduce the inflammation.
Fresh Pineapple and black cherries relieve the swelling and pain too.

Avoid Nightshade vegetables during a flare up. (Tomatoes, eggplant, spinach, mushrooms, among others.)

Amazon.com has a CD-ROM that we found very helpful for my dad. It arrived blank - so the company UPS'd us a replacement for free.

You can find it at:
http://www.amazon.com/
and just type in: Gout Psuedogout
It should come up as the second item on the list... "21st Century Complete Medical Guide to GOUT"

Good luck! Peace.
