that was involved in a bankruptcy? The bank doesn't want the car back, & can't accept a payment, however, they won't issue a lien release either (I've called them, repeatedly.). When I bought the car (from a family member) NY DMV was happy to transfer the title-with the lien still on it to me, once I explained the situation. The problem is, I now want to get rid of the car, but potential buyers won't like the idea of buying a car with a 'dirty' title. Any ideas?

Let's try this again: the financial institution WILL NOT accept a payment. They've apparently written it off. Still won't issue a release.

The bank has to release the lein-thats the only way. What is their answer for not doing so? Keep hounding them.

do no longer bypass away it in a carpark! 2 issues might ensue, this woman would be screwed while this is towed, OR, she has became in a checklist of Sale (call varies in keeping with state) against you, and you would be held to blame for towing costs ect. in many circumstances they're going to desire releases from everybody on checklist, the female and the lien holder. call the lien and spot what they might try this may assist you. you won't have the skill to pay it off on the sellers behalf. wait and spot, you do no longer desire the effect of ditching the motor vehicle!

Good God people - he said it's not his bill to pay.
Duh.
And if the bank isn't accepting payment on the car because it was written off, how or why is he supposed to pay it??
If the car belonged to a family member that was invloved in a bankruptcy, how does he have any responsibility to pay it if the person who filed bankruptcy doesn't??

I believe the only way to fix this is to pay off the lien. It was a mistake to EVER assume a lien on a vehicle unless you intended on paying it off. Essentially, that's what you did... assume the lien. Maybe you should contact an attorney, but that could cost more than paying off the lien!

Good luck.

There has to be some way to pay the Lien off to clear the Title. Call your DMV and ask them what you can do.
