Disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable, turn the ignition to start for a few seconds. Reconnect the cable and the light will be reset. If the light comes on again after driving, take it to your local auto parts store that has a scanner and find out what the problem is.

Why is the light on? Engine light means something is wrong. However, if the problem was fixed...then try disconnecting the battery for 2 minutes and then reconnecting cables to battery.

Also, some cars the engine light comes on at a certain mileage, to remind you of some maintance.

You can disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes. This will get rid of it but if it comes back then you have something wrong with your car. If you have an auto zone around go there and the will test your engine light for free and tell you what the problem is. Your car can seem to be running right but without monitoring the fuel consumption and stuff like that it could be a ticking time bomb.

Find out what the problem is, and fix it. Other than that, no legal way. AutoZone stores will plug your car in for free to read the codes, & set you in the right direction to fix the problem, but they can't reset the light for you- they WILL get fired for it. Now, if you want to go out & buy your own code scanner, or use AZ's loan-a-tool program...........I'll leave it at that. BTW: if you just clear the codes without fixing the car, (unless the code is for a loose gas cap...) the light'll just pop right back on. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will come back.

Disconnect the battery. Turn the key to the on position for 30 sec. Turn the key off and reconnect the battery.
Or bring it to Auto Zone. They will read the code and reset the light . They will tell you which part you MAY need.

Try taking your battery cables off for a few minutes then reconnecting them. This should reset the light unless something is wrong with the engine.

good luck.

disconnect the battery negitive lead for 5 minutes..this causes the ECU (computer) to reset...of course if there is a true sensor problem the light will come back on after driving...take it to Autozone they'll tell you what's wrong for free if there are codes stored.

put a piece of duct tape over it and ignore the problem until the engine blows up.
