How do you figure out what to buy?

If child is in 12 months now, would you buy 18 for summer and 24 months for fall/winter?

Thanks everyone! I work in a retail kids clothing store part time and I get 30% off even w/ sale prices (some stuff is $4 and $2!!!)

With 3 kids....I NEED to do this to save $$$$$!!!

I tend to have peanut kids!

My oldest son is almost 6 and wearing 4T!

My daughter is 1 yr and in 6-9 months and sometimes 12 months!

My son is 1 yr and in 12 months! He's growing a bit bigger than the other 2 have!

I guess I won't buy too much just to be safe!

Yeah, I've always bought the size/season combination that *should* be the right size. If your child is just 12 months now then when they are 18 months it will be September and then they'll be in that size until the following March when they move into 24 months. So if were me, I'd actually buy mostly winter clothes in the 18 month size, and then for 24 month size I'd buy mostly summer type clothes.

I do this all the time with my son..i get the greatest deals and his whole fall wardrobe i just bought for 50 including 2 pairs of shoes.

if 12 mos fits perfect now and your child doesn't grow fast i would go 18 mos or 18-24 mos for the fall. If they grow fast i would go 24 mos. My lil one is a slow grower so a whole size lasts like 6-8 mos.

i buy shirts a bit on t he big side and that way i can get it to last through the spring.

It really depends on the hight/weight of your child. If he/she is smaller than average - then most of the time the 12 months pieces would work right on, unless you want to get them a little baggier :)) If he/she's is bigger, then you'd have to buy bigger sizes.
For example, my baby is 14 months old now, and is not tall but kind of chubby - so the tops for him in size 12-18 mo are good, but the pants of 9-12months are still good :)
So consider how tall he/she is, chubby or not, short/long arms/legs, etc.
Plus keep in mind that after 12 months they do not grow as fast as before :)
And the junior always look better in the clothes that fit perfectly, and do not look like he'she has to grow into them.
Good luck!!

I buy summer clearance clothes in the winter and winter clearance at the end of summer. If your child is 1 now buy size 2 for clothes next year. 18 months is 6 months from now. If your wanting to buy summer clothes for this summer they should fit until Sept. At the end of summer 24 months or size 2 would be good for winter next year. Shoes are much harder to figure out!

It'll probably work. My daughter was always in the size she was supposed to be... 12 mos at 12 mos, 18 mos at 18 mos and so on. It doesn't always work that way. I've heard of kids growing so quickly they'll skip entire sizes. I've always taken the risk of buying a season or two ahead, and I haven't been wrong yet. Don't try it with shoes though. That's way too difficult to predict.

I started doing that while I was pregnant.

I think it's a very good idea. Just plan ahead for the seasons/weather.

Everyone wants to save money and spend as little as they can. Check out children's consignment stores or Ebay (search "Baby [girl/boy] clothing lots") or even Goodwill. You'd be surprised at how many stylishly brand new items they get.

Yeah I did this and it backfired. My son didn't change sizes that fast and I ended up having to buy a new winter wardrobe anyway. :)

Now I only buy ahead for short sleeved shirts and zipper pants (we live in AZ, so we don't need a lot of winter clothes)

Good luck with it.

Just all depends on how they grow.
I think it's safe to buy 18 for summer and 24 for winter.
Maybe even 2T for late winter.
I buy things ahead of time too - usually it works!
