A lot of times, a whole party is given after a christening for extended family. As a way to thank the godparents, dinner should definitely be done. If it is too expensive, even just invited them over and cook for them, along with your parents. Nothing fancy, but don't expect them to shell out for themselves on this day.

After my children's christenings we all came back to my house and had a little celebration. I paid for the meat, salad, and drinks and the rest of the famiy threw in a side dish or dessert. They asked what they could bring, so it worked out well. Of course, if you are honoring the godparents and your parents, I wouldn't ask the to contribute. I think it's customary for the parent to either treat all invited to a lunch/dinner or to have a celebration at home. My brother and sister-in-law treated our whole family as well as any guests to a nice Italian dinner at a local restaurant.

That's up to you. Usually it is for the godparents but if you want to make it more of a "family event" then by all means invite your parents and his too. The more the merrier.

I'd have both sets of parents as well as the Godparents.

We just had a large bar b q, but I live in Texas and every occasion calls for a family bar b q!
