I am an atheist and was wondering why the majority of christians would rather date a nominal christian than an atheist with high morals. Do not say because the bible says not to be unevenly yoked unless you follow EVERY rule/teaching in the bible.

i think the concept of a "christian" in this day and age is becoming more and more vague.

most "christians" are what i presume you'd refer to as nominal christians ... in that they were born into a christian family, perhaps have some faith, but don't entirely live within the tenets of the religion.

a nominal christian is unlikely to worry about dating an atheist, as their faith isn't at the forefront of their lives.

i can understand why a full blown church going christian would prefer to date someone with faith over an atheist though. it's simply a question of practicality.

on the flip side, i - for example - am an atheist, and would quite happily date a nominal christian (in fact i'm marrying one), however i'd never date a serious christian.

as i said, this is for practicalities sake. a full blown christian doesn't want to have to justify themselves, and atheists often like to challenge those with faith ... in truth, for both sides it can just get tiresome. even if you ignore the discussions on faith, it's just easier for a christian to go to church and do churchy stuff with someone who's interested and will tag along.

from my perspective i couldn't be doing with someone praying every night, going to church every sunday, as it's not my thing ... i'll go now and again, to be fair, but i wouldn't want it to be a big part of my life. a full christian's faith, and my lack of it, are incompatible in my book.

one example would be if things developed and we had children ... how do you decide how to raise them? the christian will want to have the kids christened and baptised, raise them to believe in christ, god, and the bible, go to church regularly, perhaps attend sunday school, etc. ... i, on the other hand, in all good conscience could not allow this, my children will be raised with the truth, and if they choose to turn to religion late in life it will be their choice.

i understand the thrust of your question ... i've always said you don't need to be a christian to be a good person, and in fact many so called "christians" are hypocrits and abysmal human beings ... compared to a clean living honest atheist ... but the answer to you query, i feel, is simply an issue of practicality.

I am not a christian but agree with them. It has nothing to do with the bible. Every relationship has physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Since you dont believe in god you will not be able to enjoy each other spiritually

If you're an atheist why do you care who a christian dates?

because we would disagree on what to do on sudays and wed. and it would be a bad example for our kids to follow you because i want to spend the rest of my life and death with the people i love and if you don't got to heaven that will not happen will it
