My long-haired cat would hate a real bath with water. Is there anything on the market that will clean her up and make her smell better besides a shampoo bath?

Yes...pet stores and places like Walmart and Petsmart have these moist towelettes (similar to baby wipes only larger) and they clean the cat with just the moisture of the cloth, remove loose fur/hair, and leave the cat smelling fresh and clean

Yes you can buy dry shampoos for cats, or powder shampoos. You can use a little talcum powder (baby powder is the better) and sprinkle it through her coat. Comb it and brush it out thoroughly to remove it all then wipe her over with a warm damp cloth.

On short hair breeds, you can do a warm bran bath, there is no reason it won't work on a long hair, you will just need to lift the hair and apply it in sections. To give a bran bath, 6 ozs plain bran (found in the health food section of the supermarket) warmed thoroughly in a moderate oven. The bran should then be rubbed with your fingers against the natural growth direction of the coat, left on for a few minutes, then gently brushed out with a slicker wire brush.

There are also pet wipes now available, these are great for quick cleaning jobs.

Just go to a store and look, even a supermarket. We use something made by Hartz that you just rub into the cat's fur and leave it, I think its lanolin based. Cats shouldn't need a bath, just regular brushing for a long haired cat. Keep the tangles away so the fur doesn't get matted.

You could buy the cat bath wipes at any pet store....I use them and they don't like it to much but it does help them and they smell good too. As far as shampoo goes...never put shampoo on them. It irrates their skin and most vets recommend that you never use it on them ....I hope this helps some and good luck!

If your cat absolutely cannot tolerate being wet, try using a waterless or powder shampoo, pre-moistened bath towelettes for pets, which have recently become available, or give your cat a 'sponge bath' with a damp towel.

The older my girls got, the more they hated bath time. I found using scented baby wipes, just wiping them down very well works great. They take it like they where getting rubbed, and I brush them right after, but they don't have to be in the water. It is a very inexpensive method and works great.

Have you even tried at water bath? You won't know until you try!
I didn't think any cat likes baths ...but ours are very calm during their baths ....because they smell bad I use Shampoo or Bubble baths...
P.S. My Brother once sprayed his cat with perfume ...but he didn't like that! :-)
Good Luck!

There are a number of pre-packaged cat wipes that you can use not only to remove dirt and dust but will also be a quick coat refreshener. They are sold in pet supply stores in the cat dept. but you can also find them in the pet section of your local Super " " Mart type store. I generally suggest to most people to simply get an annual complete grooming done by someone whose job it is to get scratched. LOL

Use your tongue like they do, then get a hair ball extractor at a local hardware store. It is 15 inch set of steel medical tools used in retraction of bowels and arteries during operations. Good luck.
