My tiel is about 5 months old and I have said "hello" to him very frequently since he was very small. He is mimicking the overall sound of hello but there is no distinct pronunciation of the word hello. Is this the limit of his capcity to mimc me or will the pronunciation get better if I keep repeating "hello"?

Cockatiel's have a hard time pronouncing words that start with "h"...he's probably saying it as best he can. Move onto the next word you want him to say, he should pick it up in no time.

I have 3 cocktails and they can do a lot, but when it comes to saying an actually word they basically mimic the overall sound. You can try other things too though. Mine can sing, mimic us calling the dogs over, laugh, make the sounds of our other birds and hamsters, and they love music, some can even learn the tune. Good luck.
