Dogs (along with many other animals) age quicker than we do.

there's something about all animals having the same amount of heartbeats in their lifetime so a mouse would have a very fast heartbeat so only lives about 3 years ours is slower so we live older so i take it a dog is in between so averages 15 years. Do you get what i mean?!?!

Article Excerpt
A mouse lives just a few years, while an elephant can make it to age 70. In a sense, however, both animals fit in the same amount of life experience. In its brief life, a mouse squeezes in, on average, as many heartbeats and breaths as an elephant does. Compared with those of an elephant, many aspects of a mouse's life--such as the rate at which its cells burn energy, the speed at which its muscles twitch, its gestation time, and the age at which it reaches maturity--are sped up by the same factor as its life span is. It's as if in designing a mouse, someone had simply pressed the fast-forward button on an elephant's life. This pattern relating life's speed to its length also holds for a sparrow, a gazelle, and a person--virtually any of the birds and mammals, in fact. Small animals live fast and die young, while big animals plod through much longer lives.

Dogs have a lot faster heart beat than us and therefore they age quicker. Every year you live means seven years to a dog, so your dog in comparison to us was 102 years old, dont you think that is long enough. I know you must be grieving for him but you have to think he was a very old man. I am sure you gave him all the love you could and he gave it back to you, so that means both of you were happy and he went with fond memories of you. If you are a bhuddist then you should know you will meet him again and you both will be happy once more. Best wishes and try not to grieve to much, he wouldnt like you to do that. Sorry it is 105 and you got me crying.

I am so sorry to hear your dog has died - I own a dog myself and dread the day. 15 is actually a good age for a dog to live to so take some consolation in that. Some breads don't live to 15 years. You will be sad for a while - think of all the good times you shared and that you gave your pet a wonderful and caring home and a good life. I got a tear in my eye here!.. xx

My dog lived till she was 16. In human years that worked out to 96 so I thought she had a long life. Animals develop and mature a damn sight quicker than humans so they don't live as long [unless you're a tortouise]. I wouldn't have fancied having my first baby at 3 yrs old but cats and dogs do cos thats when they're mature enough to have them so work it out.

you seem to be under educated on this topic of the longevity of your dog' live-span. i am in no way meaning this as an insult but if you ask any licensed veterinarian they will tell you that your dog had lived a very long life. dogs age much faster than humans do . as each day passes humans age 1 day but dogs age 7days. so for each year that passes for you 7 years will have past for your dog. in short your dog passed away at the age of 105 years old. now from that perspective i ask you, is that still not considered not very long life in your eyes?

Sorry for your loss, but 15 years is a long time for a dog to live. I don't believe the buddhist view is that a dog dies when he learns all of life's lessons, I believe that reference is to human beings only.

dogs just mature quicker than us as the saying goes every one year to us is seven to them so your dog was 105 in dog years which is a great age to live to,you must've done a really good job looking after it keeping it nice and healthy, good on you so may people dont treat their dogs right now by not excercising them and not maintaining a healthy diet e.t.c

When you think a dog year is the same as 7 years in a human then he was 105,not a bad innings.

Sorry about your loss.

There is a theory, that all creatures have the same number of heartbeats throughout their lives on average.

So creatures with faster heartbeats, have a shorter lifespan.

Creatures with slower heartbeats, like a giant tortoise live longer.
