My 3.5 year old daughter fell on her knees running down a hill today. Later today she told a taxi driver she had hurt her knee on the pavement. His answer was: "What a stupid thing to do." My daughter is not used to being spoken to as if she was a piece of furniture and she looked at the guy and then looked at me with a really dissapointed and confused look.
I reminded her that it wasn't a very clever thing to run down hills and that it can be dangerous. She bought it and seemed happy after that oblivious to the dent in her developing self-esteem.
Once she heard a report on the news where 2 children and 2 adults had died in a car crash. It was on the radio and that is on most of the time when i am in the kitchen. She looked at me shocked and repeated what was said in the news in a questioning tone, "2 children have died?" about 3 times before i found the words to answer. I told her these things happen. And that is why it is important to Stop, Look and Listen before crossing the road. Again she understood.
I need no convincing emotions are significant in any childs life.
Emotions are what makes us human. And children are human too. Although many adults seem to forget that sometime.

I think they are very important, but children must be taught not to think and make judgements on an emotional basis only.

Their emotions must also be tested, although within limits, or they will never become robust. Too many delicate over sensitive people who have been emotionally pampered.

Children are not glass.

DO you mean their own emotions toward things or a parents emotions toward them? Either might/will have an effect on them...but it's better to approch a situation with understanding and love..even if the confict wasn't your fault. children will usually tell the truth...but all the same ..be careful

Children are sensitive little people. They learn from you and others around them. So, emotions, showing emotions in a positive are very important. Like actions that are positive are also just as important.

If I misunderstood you question, sorry.

I barely understand the question...

The emotions of children are unbelievably important. In fact, I think providing an emotionally supportive atmosphere for kids is probably one of the most important things we as parents can do.

You can teach kids things they need to do to be physically or academically successful, but if you don't nurture their emotions, and teach them how to experience them and show them in healthy ways, what they do with that knowledge can be unbelievably skewed. It can affect their lives forever, how they see themselves, how they respond to others, what they do with their lives.
