There is something called American English, but it's not a language, it's a dialect.

Dialects are parts of the language that are intelligible among themselves but change depending on the location.
For example English has different dialects, like: Australian dialect, American dialect, Southafrican dialect, etc.

The language is English. The "American" is just a regional form of the English language, as the "Canadian" the "Australian", the "Scottish" or any other variety spoken in any English speaking country. But the language's name is English

The sites just do that to differentiate between American english & British english. There is no American language. There is just an American versin of english.
