He does pretty good with water bottles with only the occasional spill and he does clean up after himself (when told) when he does make a mess. What do you think? Thanks!

I say give it a try. Just use them in areas easy to clean and with liquids that won't stain. We were totally rid of sippy cups between 2 and 2.5 years.

My son has been drinking from a normal cup since he was about 18 months at the table. He still carried around a sippy until about a month ago when he turned 2. I buy him the box juiced that have the straw in them when he's not eating. He does very well with a normal cup, although sometimes he still spills. I think you should try at least at the table when he has his meals. Good luck.

Now.

Seriously, he'll be fine. My kids both got off sippy cups around their second birthdays. He may still spill, but the more practice he gets at it, the better he'll be at it. Until he really gets the hang of it, you might want to have a rule that he can only have cups of water anywhere other than the table/kitchen or something like that, so if it spills, you only have water to clean up, not milk or grape juice or kool-aid.

Then you can enjoy knowing that you don't have to worry about having special cups for him when he wants a drink.

Love the freedom.

My daughter is 21 months and I only give her regular cups at meals so she can practice. I still give her sippy cups or water bottles when she drinks anything in the living room. She does really well with the cups. Just keep practicing and give him cups whenever you can supervise him and give him the sippy cups when you're nervous about him spilling something.

I would start now. Let him know there is a rule, that he can only have some thing to drink in the kitchen, or sitting at the table. Expect that there will be the occasional spill. If you get resistance from him, make a big deal about him being a big kid and take him to the store to pick out appropriately sized cups.

I think you should first make a transition with sippie cup into a cup with a cover and straw. It may not seem as such a difference but it eliminates plenty of spills! Let this be your test time with him. Explain to him that he cannot just lift the cup up or all the juice will spill. See how he does ....and introduce him to a cup!

I would probably let him start using a regular cup at the table and still have the sippie for a while. They have ones with the straw some of them you have to suck hard and they have other ones that are just like drinking from a straw. After my kids got older (getting close to 3) they used those for around the house

I still use sippy cups for children that age when we are going somewhere.

At home, give them a medium sized regular cup and only fill 1/4 of the way. Make sure you explain that the cup must stay in the area that you have designated for it.

My 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old is an same way. i eventually were given her to flow to mattress with out it. even if it really is the first element she asks for in the morning. in simple terms be grateful that she's no longer sucking her thumb or a pacifier. Or doesn't have something else that ought to get gross like a particular pillow or in spite of. A sippy cup, i imagine is an ok option.

I have worked as a preschool Director for many years and I also teach Child Development.

It is always best to introduce a regular cup as soon as possible.

Messes happen, it's a part of life! Try water in the cup first to see how he does. You will be surprised at how quickly he catches on!
