Sometimes you will see a video that shows a getaway...but, not too many times, for the police are too ashamed of not being able to solve their case(s). They're usually only trying to show the ones that do get caught to make themselves look really good to the public. Which will lead me to presume that that is why there are shows like "America's most wanted" and "cold Case", or even the "The Bounty Hunters" are examples of what is not shown by the law enforcement agency, but they are created from records of cases provide through PUBLIC available records or files.

1. Would you broadcast your failures?
2. How would a TV station show a suspect getting away? If they are still filming they can just call the police.
3. If the police haven't found the suspect by the time the news rolls around, then they are "still searching".
Think before you ask these questions, Mitch.

Not sure where you are watching police videos. If it is on television, how many people would watch shows where the crook gets away? I have seen them occasionally though. Many States do not allow vehicle pursuits now or limit them to rural areas due to safety concerns for other citizens. In this case, they end a pursuit and get a license number and sometimes wait at the owners home.

It isn't conducive to the lawenforcment community to advertize their failures. They only show the failure to apprehend videos when they are stumped and need the publics help. Most of the videos where the suspects get away
are warehoused for future references.

They used to show suspects getting away, but they think it encourages people to run.

because they do not want to encourage people, but go to a site like you tube and you will find a few videos of people out running the police

Simple. They want people to think you're never going to get away with anything. They want other criminals to think they're going to get caught. Maybe they think that will keep crime down, and maybe it does help a little, who knows?
