My Bengal Kitty probably would have been thrilled to be an only cat. However, realize that they are typically VERY high strung and needs LOTS of attention. They can be great with kids, but many will not tolerate non-animal smart kids. Meaning kids who don't watch where they are walking, kids who are mean, kids who mess with them too much, etc.
Bengals are also notorious for having health problems. The first 5 years I had him, he had constant diarrhea, UTIs AT least 1-2 times a year, and a ton of issues. I spent probably $500 a year in vet bills on him and another $500 in medications. He HATED to ride in the carrier and would always pee all over the place. Luckily, he was the ONLY Bengal at our clinic not to be red flagged for aggression. When he didn't get what he wanted, he'd jump on coutertops and tables and push things onto the floor, one by one (including glasses, pottery, dishes, picture frames, etc), until he got what he wanted. I think he actually liked to break things. All these problems are fairly common within the breed.
Like I said, many vets told me he was a "good" one. I loved my Bengal dearly, but I don't want to get another one. Now, my Siamese on the other hand, I'd take a million of him.

The Bengal Cat has a happy, active, interactive and extremely intelligent personality. Every domestic cat breed has its unique features, and the exotic heritage of the Bengal cat can be seen in their every day activities. While Bengals will happily search out a lap or stretch out on the sofa next to you during naptime, they are very active during the rest of the day.
The energetic Bengal is not for people who just want a leopard print cat for decoration. Whether they are fishing in the aquarium or playing in their water-bowls, fetching balls for their families, taking walks on a leash or climbing to the top of the highest cupboards, Bengals are constantly on the move and are perfect for anyone who wants to interact and play with their cat daily. The Bengal cat, like many other pets, demands a good deal of attention and affection and enjoys being an integral part of the family.

Not all Bengals are created equal, get one from a reputable ethical breeder or you could have a very aggressive pet on your hands and they can be dangerous.
They are fine as 'only cats' they are usually fine with kids but as mentioned, you have to be sure of their breeding.

Bengal are very playful and energetic. They might scare little kids but older ones would have fun. I would get two kitties, it's nice for them to have a friend.

Are you talking about Bengal Tigers?! If you are, haven't you heard of all the instances where a tiger 'pet' seriously harmed or even killed it's owner's children?! Bengal tigers are not pets, they are wild animals, and I do believe that it is illegal to own one! They might be majestic and beautiful, but they become moody and dangerous in captivity.
