Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Heb 11:1)
Faith comes by hearing and Hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
If you have the faith of the grain of a mustard seed you can say unto this mountain be thou cast into the sea...(matthew 17:20)
Hope these help. God bless you.

Hey Pix, are you for real?
Hope so, because its refreshing to find someone serious.
Faith is conviction, an assurance regarding something.
You must have already read the definition in Hebrews 11:1.
It is obtained over time by a diligent study of the Bible.
Please note Romans 10:17 says faith FOLLOWS.
It follows the thing heard.
So study, research, reasoning and meditation on God's word will be followed by a growing faith, or conviction.
You're right when you refer to 'increasing one's faith'.
Hebrews 6:1 exhorts everyone not to content themselves with a knowledge of the elementary things about God and Christ, but to press on to the deeper things.

What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
How do we obtain faith?
Romans 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
How can we increase our faith?
5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

faith is certainly not simply a belief system..
fear has a belief system as well infact they work exactly
the same.
Faith is a tool and faith has a voice..Faith without wavering is simply put faith with the absence of fear. When the angels appeared to people most of the time the first words out of their mouths was Fear Not!
Solomon spent a great deal of time in his writing basically
teaching don't say this but say this.
The key to faith is found in mark 4
a very over looked and misunderstood precept to faith.
Our words are seeds and our words also expose what is in
abundance in our heart.
Most people send a good majority of their time talking about what they fear. And if you took a poll you would find that these people also reaped that which they feared in their life.
We are created in the image of G-d.He created by the words of his mouth. In Genesis Chapter 1 G-d said appears 9 times and after he created it he gave it a name.
We are in G-d image because we have the ability to create our world by the words of our mouth.
If you spend all your time talking about failure sickness poverty etc.....you will reap all of those things
But if you spent all your time talking about success health and prosperity you will reap all of those things as well
One works in the realm of fear the other the realm of faith.
The law that governs creation is the law of seedtime and harvest.Which is every seed produces after it's own kind...
You can't plant apple seeds and expect to get oranges it just doesn't work.
As long as the heavens and the earth remain so shall seedtime and harvest.
Isn't it amazing that basically the Bible is a handbook for farming.

You have to exercise your faith. Faith comes from the heart not the mind. Your heart is a muscle and like all muscles must be exercised in order to reap the most benefit.
You have to constantly read and meditate on the word of God. You have to have a relationship with God. You cannot go to church on Sunday and claim that you ar a Christian. Faith without works is dead.
You have to walk your faith and be it. Even in the midst of your doubt, proclaim that He is God! Proclaim that He is real! God will reward you for your faithfulness.

Go to Jeanmarie's answer. That is the best answer on here.
let it be known that we the spiritual world is real and infintely more important than the physical world. The most important thing in this physical world is whether or not you open the keys to Heaven while you are alive. In order to understand the spiritual world you must first give your life to Jesus Christ and ask Him to give you the Holy Spirit. When you do you will become spiritually alive and you will be able to understand spiritual things.
A simple example to explain faith - The Holy Spirit is a person and He is VERY VERY VERY VERY real. When you ask Jesus to take away your sins and then you ask Him to give you the Holy Spirit, you will only receive the Holy Spirit by FAITH.

Faith, is belief in, trust in, and loyalty to God. One belief is that saving faith is the only condition of salvation and others believe that it includes repentance, confession of sins, and obedience to God through Christ Our Saviour. II Chr,19:9 Acts 2:38;16:31; Gal.3:11. For me faith is something not seen but hoped for. To increase my faith I just continue to believe the Word of God and Prayer. Faith is giving away somethig you have...a seed...to create somethin you don't have. Faith is proof that something exists though we do not presently see it. Whin we agree in faith Mathew 18:19 Blessings are inevitable!

Faith is believing that you are saved through Jesus Christ and that he will supply your every need. There is so much to faith and many different forms but that is a good start. Trusting God with different aspects of your life increases your faith. Reading the Bible and praying also increase your faith.

Youi need a lengthier reply than this site can offer so the following is a brief hint only.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
It is obtained by accepting Christ as personal friend and saviour.
In the same way you increase anything else...exercising it.
God bless you.

Oh, for goodness sake, man, you're asking for a book! (And two answerers have started the first chapter.)
"Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for; the evident demonstration of reality, though not beheld. This is what the ancients were commended for." (Hebrews chap 11 vs 1,2) Or, as put in "The Message": "The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living."
It is obtained by hearing the word of God (or reading it in the Bible), and by asking God for faith: "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." (Romans ch 10 vs 17)
"If you can? said Jesus. Everything is possible for him who believes. Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark ch 9 vss 14-29)
Faith has to be exercised in order for it to be increased. The wonderful thing is that the moment we try to put faith into practise, the Lord responds, overwhelmingly, to confirm our faith and to encourage us to persevere in faith. He gives faith to those who ask, and he increases faith in proportion to our exercise of it. That leaves us all without excuse.
