The Jesus you read about in the bible seemed pretty humble. He did get pretty wound up about some people trading in a temple.
So why do we need all the gold? I really don't get it. On one side you've got mangers, carpentry, the meek inheriting the earth etc and then you go into a church and you've got gold all over the place.

Maybe the church is keeping it for us because they know it won't make us happy?

Which church is yours cos in my church there is no 'gold laying about'! But seriously, if you are talking about resources, i believe the church doesnt have enough to meet the outreach/evangelism grounds that are yet to be covered all over the world staring from North America.

I worship Jesus too and can hardly last from pay check to paycheck, but as you know it all belongs to God in the first place. He only let us use things and a true church always, and I mean always prosper. I'm just waiting for my ship to come in.
The gold is a sign of prosperity.

you are wise as the book says, for you see the evil fruit that is before you. Bible also mentions over n over that churches are bad at times, to not follow man nor a building, etc.
Cause Acts 17:24 turns the light on
24God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Follow HIM, follow HIS Word, not man, not a building, not a title. For He calls them hypocrites over n over for following tradition and not truth.
HIS name is YAHWEH, YHWH by the way, know it, for it is HIS true name.
