I constantly fear for the safety and well being of my children. I find myself worrying that they will be kidnapped, molested, tortured or killed. I also fear that I will die and leave them behind. I used to participate in a religion that told me that the "sign" that I carry is very difficult, and that the person who carries this sign usually dies young. I no longer practice this religion (or any other for that matter), however I still find that I am fearful of the things that I was told. I also lost my mother at the age of 12, so I can only assume that my fear also derives from this as well. There are so many terrible things that happen to children, I'm not sure I will be able to handle a tragedy of this kind. Any insight?? Am I paranoid??

I think you're a normal parent. I also think that your own life experience makes it seem very real and very possible to you. You might look into trying some relaxation techniques, especially if these thoughts increase your heart rate, because stressing over thoughts like these is not good.

You might look into counseling, and no, I don't think you're crazy, but talking to a professional about these thoughts can be helpful, and they may be able to find a way for you to better cope.

We live in a Fear based society.......you are reacting.
Time to take a reality check...worry is just that worry it is useless unless the situation is something you can change or
alter and undo in the present......
You are putting this worry and fear into your childresn subconscious and that is not fair to them to worry about things that have not happened.......
I have a web site with information that might help you to see
a different reality than your old religion did...please accept my invitation to join my yahoo 360 profile friendship group of loving people with wonderful outlooks on living. This is not religious or about religions and accepting of all belief systems.
my best to you for a loving peaceful life.

Get counseling. Your fears are on things you have no control over, yet they are controling you. Counseling will help you to deal with these fears more rationally and understand that "Life Happens" and you have to be ready to deal with what it may bring, but not fear it before it has happened.

It sounds like you have a tendency to be anxious. Try THE RELAXATION RESPONSE by Herbert Benson, M.D. I have similar worries about my life and children, actually, and have learned to manage them.

I will write more later, have to run to a meeting. Good luck.

Maybe you should seek couselling for all these feelings. They are not abnormal, but are interfering with your normal life. Try relaxation techniques, like soft music, and deep breathing. Therapy will help you accept these stresses of life that are natural in all of us.
