Duty free items are bought without the duty normally charged in the country where you buy it. There can be a benefit to buying duty free items, but you need to be careful of two things.

1. Know what your customs allowances are. If you go over these then you will have to pay the duty as if you had bought the items in your home country

2. Some duty free shops actually charge a higher price than the normal shop price less the duty. This will then hit you twice if you go over your allowance. It can sometimes be better to buy in a regular store and claim the duty back if the country you are buying in allows that.
