I used to be a professional decorator.Either colour is tricky to use. If purple is what she wants, go with a lighter shade in the lavender family. Pink is the hardest colour to decorate with. bright pinks such as hot pink can be hard on the eyes after a while when they cover your wall. Some colours look great on furnishings but when put on a wall can look dreadful.Stay away from what I call dark bright barbie doll pink. Looks great on the paint chip but on the wall...yuck.If dark pink is a must I recommend something in between purple and pink in the fuscia family that leans toward a plum. That will give you a nice rich colour without being bubble gum or barbie doll bright.I suggest you go to a fabric store and find pink or purple fabrics you like and open them up so you can see a larger area of the colour all at once. This will help you get an idea if you think you can live with that colour on your wall in large amounts. Once you choose a colour, get a swatch and take it to your local paint store. A good paint sales person will be able to match your colour exactly.I used to do this when I worked in a paint and paper store all the time for customers.
The other option is to paint the walls a softer or more neutral colour and add the hot pink and/or purple accents in pillows and bedding etc. Good luck. Hope your little sister ends up loving her newly decorated room.

Pink is tough - we just did my daughter's room. If you get the right color, it can be beautiful but there are some doozies out there. I completely recommend getting the sample sizes- Benjamin moore sells them for about $2 - and putting it on the wall to see how it looks.
The color will look different on the wall - sometimes almost like another color entirely. You don't want pepto bismal walls! We did that once when she was younger and she got sick of it quickly.
Dark purple probably depends on the light in the room. I might go for a more neutral color on the wall and highlight with the darker.

neither is a good wall color. Hot pink is probably prettier, but will cause some people to get a headache. Any dark color will make th eroom look darker and smaller. Pastel colors are always the best choice for the walls.

Dark purple, if you must use one of the two.
My sister-in-law painted her room the hottest pink she could find, and OH MY GOSH. Every time we walked in, it took a while for our eyes to adjust to the blinding ugliness that was her walls.
As cute as dark purple and hot pink are for dresses and hairbows, we're talking about walls. Using either color to paint walls would be too much.
I'm gonna agree with the folks who suggested lavender or light pink. Accent it with dark purple, or hot pink, but those colors are just not good ideas for painting your walls.

For a little girl's room I would go with hot pink. It is bright, and you can find more to go with it. Dark purple is more mature and has to be put in the right room. I think it looks great in a large bathroom!

dark purple because if she is a little girl then she might spill something on the walls and if it was hot pink then it would show up easier and hot pink in my room would just give me a headache!

Just be aware of the fact that hot pink will "glow" into the hallway off the bedroom and make that section of the hallway appear pink as well.

Why not both. Paint the walls pink and trim with purple. I'm afraid if you paint it all dark purple the room will be dark and depressing. So if you only want one color, go for the pink.

I'd go with a lavendar and then accent with darker colors, like pillows and pictures on the wall. You can even change the light fixtures to coordinate!

My buddy doesn't have pink carpet, yet she's gonna get black paint and paint her walls. Then, she is going to purchase some neon or glow in the darkish paint. she will make a swirly layout and ask her associates to entice on her wall. It sounds fairly cool.
