leonard faced some of the strongest fastest well trained atheletes ever to box...yet he adapted to their style and found a way to win...hagler was much stronger than ray but he found a way to defuse haglers strength.when a people said he wasnt strong enough he proved them wrong when people questioned his Chin he proved them wrong against HITMAN HEARNS in an awesome display of courage an determination from ray. RAY all the way!!

I will give De La Hoya some credit for one thing and that is he has fought the best of his generation and never ducked anyone. He also has beat some really good fighters along the way. He is a good boxer/puncher with good handspeed and power. Sugar Ray Leonard was a great fighter and also never ducked anyone beating such great fighters as Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler using his amazing speed and great boxing ability. I believe that this would be a pretty good fight for a few rounds but the overall boxing ability of Leonard would be the difference as he would wear down Oscar with tremendous combinations to the head and body. Oscar would fight back bravely but would suffer with swelling around both eyes. On the advice of the ring physician De La Hoya would not be allowed to come out for the 11th round with Leonard the winner by TKO.

I was never a big fan of Ray Leonard, but lets face facts, beating Hagler, Hearns and Duran ranks him with the elite at 154. Oscar never fought that type of opposition, and Ray would get by Oscar in the same manner he beat Benitez should Oscar fight to survive instead of stand his ground. Oscar would stand his ground, and Ray would over power him. Ray's speed and quickness were as good as it got, but Ray Leonard's power was always underrated, and Oscar wouldn't have had an advantage there either. I don't see Oscar getting past Leonard, Ray won titles all the way to 175 while Oscar couldn't take a body shot at 160.

Leonard beat legends. What has De La Hoya really ever done. The only fighters he beat worth mentoning is Pernell Whitaker, Oba Carr and a 100 year old Ceasar Chavez. Hardly a hall of fame resume. I think he's the most overrated piece of crap in boxing history. Leonard would murder De La Hoya in their prime.

Sugar Ray. simply put, he was just too fast. De La Hoya doesn't have enough power or speed to knock Leanord out...so forget it. Sugar by TKO in the 8th....too much blood coming from the left eye of Oscar.

big fan of oscar...but take a look at the hearns fight and see ray leonard dig down deep...even past his prime in rd 9 of the hagler fight...i think sugar may have even had more power than oscar...it wouldn't appear that way, but.....like i said...take a look at sugar slugging it out with hearns and you tell me...
