My dad was a USA Citizen and he brought me to the USA when I was 17 years old in 1995. I would like to know if i have the right to become an american citizen automatically because of my dad citizenship.

Yes, but you still need to apply for that and give proof of his citizenship, and all that paperwork.

Where do people get this stuff? Why do they just make up answers? Less than half of the answers above are right.

If your father was a US citizen before you were born, and if he lived in the US for at least ten years, five of those after the age of 15, then you are entitled to derivative citizenship regardless of where you were born. It would be interesting to know what sort of travel document he used to take you to the US: was it an immigrant visa? a foreign passport? a US passport? If it was a US passport, then you are a citizen already. If it was anything else, you can apply for a certificate of citizenship from USCIS, presenting proof of his citizenship and your relationship. Here is how:

Any child born to a US citizen overseas automatically get US citizenship. My kids did. My wife is an American and I'm English. You just have to go to an immigration office with your birth certificate and proof of your dad's citizenship.

There is NEVER an automatic citizenship.

However, you might already be a citizen since dad is. You don't give enough info to answer.

If your parent lived in the USA from birth past his 13 or 15 th birthday. My ex wife left the US at age 12 in 1976 and returned in 1994 with 4 kids born in Canada and me. We ALL had to get green cards.

Yes, you derive citizenship from your father. Why did he not apply for you then? The only question may be the fact that you are no longer a minor at 18 so you better hurry.

Children born of an American citizen (mother, father, or both) are American citizens.

You may have to provide some paperwork to prove it, birth certificates, but by law you are an American citizen.

You were born in another country. You will have to go through citizenship as you father did.
Only children born here are citizens.

PS We had a family break up over this here in our state. The only children that were left here in America was the kid that was born here. The rest of the family were deported.

OK, generally, you'd be just fine, but have to do the paperwork. Go to uscis.gov and get it from the source, though.
