I read a story earlier about a lady who died on a flight shortly after take off and her body was moved from economy class to first class for the rest of the journey. Why did they not land and take the body off? If you have a few drinks and stand up to the bullying staff they are quick enough to turn the plane round to chuck you off so why not for a dead person?

Maybe first class was not very occupied, and also they may have asked those seated there if they would be bothered. I would not have been.

Also, it is (to me) more respectful to place a dead person's body in a seat in a less occupied area than to put in a closet.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Dying is a part of living...we all have to die sooner or later. The woman passed away, the body was removed to a less congestive space on the plane. Perhaps as a nurse I've seen death more often than others, but please....get a grip! Given the circumstances, I think the actions taken by the flight staff for the poor woman and her daughter were perfectly acceptable, sympathetic and understandable.

I was on a plane where a guy died. We were over the ocean so stopping wasn't an option. They dragged the poor guy's body down the length of the plane and put him in a storage closet in the back. I don't think that was right to leave the body out in the open. The rest of the people in first class must have been freaked out. They call it first class for a reason.

This happened to someone I know. The mother was coming from the Dominican Republic to NYC and died mid-flight (turned out she had pneumonia and her lungs flooded). They kept flying because what would they do otherwise? Leave the body at another airport?! I'm sure the airlines have their policies regarding things like this, but from what I understand, it takes A LOT (yes, you'd think a dead body would count) for them to make an unexpected landing. Women have also given birth mid-flight too when I'm sure they could try to land.

Why divert for someone that is obviously dead think about the cost and inconvenience. The staff are there to do a very important and responsible job and it is people with an attitude like yours that tend to create problems on the flight especially when they have had a few drinks and put the safety and security of the aircraft, crew and passengers at risk.

I think it was a good call to do what they did.

The daughter received the less stress possible under the circumstances. Imagin if they had decided to throw her in the back of the plane.

At least they got her to the correct airport and didnt make the situation worse by dropping her off in some random foreign country to sort out the whole thing.

Dead people are quieter and model passengers? Don't make a noise, mess or ask for things all the time. They can't reach the bell or snore and annoy the other passengers!

The plane would have thrown a lot of schedules out by landing again. Wasted money and caused the live passengers a lot of hassle.

Selfish it may be but it was one person.......and there must have been a lot more live ones......

I don't think it was bullying I think it was economics that made them stay up!

They might have been over a body of water, where they could not land the craft. They may have been over half way to the final destination, therefore reason of not turning the plane around.

At least the lady got to fly first class, even though her soul was not there. Bless her heart!!!

I guess it's only sensible & courteous to let the lady be received at the place she wanted to go, than just dump her anywhere. Unlike the drunkard or trouble maker who would just continue to annoy other passengers & cause trouble for the staff, the lady would cause no disturbance to anyone.

If the person was dead whats the point? It may be that the place she needs to be is where she is flying to. Why stop somewhere else and make more issues for the family. It would just make people angry because of flight delays.
