My guy does not, we talked about us having children and everything but he does not think is necessary to get married. I was raised with divorced parents and he did not. I know how it feels to not have both parents. Do you think i am exaggerating for this reason?

No you're not. So many people give that BS of "it's only a piece of paper" but it is WAY more than that. If you're not married, technically you would have no legal rights in many states in a lot of matters. For instance, if he gets in an accident and is in a coma or needs to be on/off life support - you have no legal say if you are not his wife. Unless he designates you as a beneficiary, you have no rights to life insurance. He can leave you high and dry with a pack of kids, a mortgage and bills and you have little legal recourse. You are not exaggerating, if you want to be protected, you should get married.
