Hey Y!A.

I realize that this isn't replacement for a true medical diagnosis, but if anyone has some ideas that'd be appreciated. My friend described her mom's symptoms like this:

on the way out (of a store) she said she felt really weird and she appeared really out of it. in the car she said she was sweating and probably having a hot flash ( at her age its normal and she's had them). then we got home and she got completely out of it and she looks liker shes drunk. She sits with her eyes closed and doesnt even know whats going on.

Any ideas?

Joey

Insufficient data...but what you are saying is of concern. Sudden changes in level of awareness are not OK. She very much needs to be checked by an MD for further eval. Does she have any Cardiac, Blood Pressure or Diabetic Hx? When she acts "drunk" is her speech slurred...does her face appear different? Is she "unable to move" a part or side of her body? Any recent injuries...head injuries? I would also suggest calling 911 if one of these episodes happens again. Best of luck, I'm sure the Doc's will assist your friends mom.

Those symptoms could be any one of a hundred different things some extremely serious and some nothing to worry about.
It could have been a very slight stroke (called a tia), my mum had one of these a couple of months back & although she is fine now without treatment it could have been much worse.
Get the girls mum to a doctor, it's always better to be safe than sorry

It sounds like it could be a problem with the blood sugar either too high or too low. She probably needs to go to a doctor to find out. I have had symptoms like that when my blood sugar has gone very low but there are people who have problems like that when their's goes really high too. Take her to the doctor and get her tested for diabetes maybe.

It could be a stroke, a seizure, a sugar level problem, an anxiety attack… she should really see a doctor to rule out serious danger such as a stroke, maybe even go to E.R.

Diabetes. If she doesn't get immediate medical assistance she will go into a coma, suffer multiple organ failure and die.
